My Personal Comics History Pt.2
The 80s were heaven. I had a paper route to supplement my allowance and nothing but comics to spend it on. Well that and the snack bar at my baseball games. I was all about Marvel Comics then except for one small title. A friend had let me read his Legion of Super-Heroes issues and I had gotten hooked. It stood outside the regular DC Universe and had it’s own continuity (not that DC was big on continuity in the 80s that would come later, heck they are still tyring to straighten it all out) and I still collect LSH to this day thanks to that friend. Not that it is as good rebooted for the 5th time. Which all started with Crisis on Infinite Earths. Pretty much my entranceway to the DCU proper. My brother Jay had branched out from Fantastic Four to second title, New Teen Titans which had a lot of lead-ins to COIE. Crisis led me to start buying my own Titans comics (the series and spin-offs) as well as the new Superman and Flash (Wally West) series. But it wasn’t until Legends from DC that my “zombie” instincts kicked in and I tried collecting darn near everything they published. But at this point my money was spread pretty thin between the Big 2 companies and a lot of comics started to fall by the wayside. Quality won out as I started to learn writer and artists names. I had been reading for years and never even noticed the people creating my favorite hobby each and every month. I feel like I should apologize.
