Convention Report
Only made it to the Sunday afternoon portion of Heroes Con, the comic book convention held every year here in Charlotte. Hosted by Shelton Drum, owner of local comic shop Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find, the Heroes Con is strictly focused on the comic book industry. Rarely will you ever find Hollywood in attendence. This one is about writers, artists, publishers, dealers and their ilk. Great mix of dealers on the floor and Sunday afternoon afforded a ton of discount boxes ranging from the 50cent to $2 for me to rummage through. I blew about $100 in two hours and then just enjoyed roaming the floor looking at the toys, statues and art on display. Sketches from the artists present seem to be a bit more expensive than I recall. When I first started going to conventions in Detroit and Chicago I was paying in the $10 to $15 range and everyone seemd happy to do’em. Signs posted were considerably higher in many cases. Still I had a good time and consider myself incrediblely lucky to be living in a city with a professional football team and an annual comic convention. I need to get out and explore more non-chain restaurants though here in Charlotte. That would be the icing on the cake for this city.
