Review: Fantastic Four 2

Marvel Comics made into movies continues it’s trend of improving upon the original with the sequel. FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER was much better than the first film, which I was greatly underwhelmed with. Better story, better script, better f/x all around this time. Sure the dialogue could have used some punching up in places and their were a few inconsistent characterizations, not to mention some gaps in logic… but I was entertained, I enjoyed myself! The highlights were Johnny Storm, the Human Torch and the Silver Surfer. Storm was the best handled of the FF, with some actual character development and decent acting by Chris Evans. But the Silver Surfer stole the movie as handled by acted (occassionally) by Doug Jones, voiced by Laurence Fishburne, but mostly rendered in CGI. Terrific! Best CGI character ever. And Galactus was handled nicely, left vague and mysterious enough for what amounts to a cosmic, nigh infinte power.

Added bonus was the plethora of great trailers seen beforehand. I am excited as all get-out for THE SIMPSONS MOVIE, HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, UNDERDOG and TRANSFORMERS. DIE HARD 4 was a pretty sweet string of special effects but little plot, still made me want to see it. ;-)
